Great Comics, and other stuff

First off, go read last week’s VG cats, and today’s Something Positive. They both got quite the chuckle. For very different reasons.

While catching up on DVD’s today (more on that in a bit) I had a chance to work on the Lego Case some. I’ve got a complete base:
Bottom\'s Up

And the lid is done and has Discovery attached:
Straight On
Side View

That’s right, I’m using the space shuttle as a hood ornament, as it were. Now for the hard part. The sides, the hookups, and mounting drives. It might be back to bricklink to get more specialty parts as I play around.

So I watched Batman Begins a second time today, and it still held as damn cool. Except for Katie Holmes, who should be put out of her misery. No one should suffer through sleeping with Tom Cruise. One wonders how Kidman ever coped. Besides all that, her many years on teeny-bopper TV did nothing for her acting skills. She kinda sucks at it. Bale is amazing. When I first heard the casting, I was a little surprised, since he hadn’t done much since American Psycho (also an amazing one.) Then there were pictures. And it was cool. Then I read that the naysayers should see Equilibrium, as the action sequences in that show off his skill. I did, and the action was pretty bad ass. The rest of the movie stunk. Also, Gary Oldman makes just about the perfect Jim Gordon. Then again, Gary Oldman is amazing in lots of stuff.

Movie #2 on the day was True Romance, an action filled crime caper written by Quentin Tarantino. It’s got an amazing cast, and so many people that weren’t big when it was made that are big now. There are some great great scenes. Some pretty fugly violence, but its somewhat beautifully savage. Maybe I’m just warped, but that scene between James Gandolfini and Patricia Arquette is absolutely mind blowing.

Hmm.. What else to cover. Creativity Kickoff went off without a hitch. Early morning, but most of mine are these days. I had a good time, and I think we left a lot of new coaches a little less in the dark about what they’ve gotten themselves into.

Redskins kicked all ass yesterday, but It was the Niners, so it really doesn’t count. I’d like to be able to do that to the Eagles, or any other team in the NFC east for that matter.

The Element needs to go in for its first Oil change, if I go by contemporary mindsets. Not if I go by the owner’s manual, and I’m not sure which I’ll believe.

Oh, and there is another story brewing here in FerretLand, but I’m gonna wait till I have all sorts of time to post that one. Or at least some sort of outcome. This is the only hint I’ll give out, for now:

Powerball and other oddities

First off, congrats to the punk in Oregon that hit the Powerball jackpot solo. Enjoy everyone you know asking for favors or money. Even those you don’t know will ask. In the event I won, I think I’d try to remain as anonymous as possible. Of course, Matt had some interesting ideas:
(via AIM)
Me: some bastard in Oregon hit the powerball solo
Matt: mofo.
Me: there went our Caribbean island
Matt: and my nuclear weapons
Me: even with all that cash, you couldn’t afford many
Matt: only need one
Me: Jersey?
Matt: where else?

I’m thinking that all that money is too much. I’d rather win enough to be comfortable, but not enough to go really crazy.

More thanks to Matt, as he sent me a link to the following image. Personally, I think its more funny than disturbing. I can’t believe how close minded some people are. I’m not gonna reopen my tirade on organized religion, but wow are some people dense.
Good For a Laugh

I think it’s funny that N*Sync is listed under Acid Rock. I guess that’s partly true, since I’d have to be on Acid to listen to them. Also, it’s unclear whether gardening and arborism lead to wicca, or just have similar goals. I realize this flow chart is crap, but there’s just so many fun assumptions here:

Skateboarders = Anarchists
RPG Players <3 Renaissance festivals
Satan is the root of Catholicism. (this thing came off a baptist website)

Laugh as hard as I did, one thing was accurate. Hillary Clinton has got to be directly linked to Satan somehow. It would explain a lot. (I think I just heard my conservative friends gasp.)

Oh, and here’s a mugshot I can’t wait to see.

Other random bits:

  • If you live in Florida, get the heck out. Wilma’s coming, and she’s gonna put the entire state into Dino’s Doghouse.
  • The first real event of the DE Odyssey season is this weekend, the Creativity Kickoff. Luckily I don’t have to worry about showing off Team Building or Performance Techniques like last year, since I’m the only person from last years team that will be there. (Punk people having kids, and being in Alaska.) It’s just geek stuff and web stuff, so it should be an easy day. Except for that whole packing up all the food, carting it to Sussex County, and setting it up. Of course, now that I’ve got a cargo plane for a car, I’m sure its gonna be well packed in. I should prolly get the dog hair out of it today…
  • Looking forward to Domino this weekend. I think I may skip out on the Wallace and Gromit double header bit, however.

Can you tell when I started cheating?

That’s the chart of the game. I’m the Russians. You figure it out :)

So now Nighthawk has been christened with dog hair…

… and a little blood. I helped take the pups to get their nails trimmed yesterday. Put the seats up (its almost just as easy to pull them out, provided you have a place to put them) and tossed the pups into the back. Ok, not tossed. But I did I have to lift them. If you know anything about Labrador Retrievers, you know they like to lose hair in new places. And it sticks to everything. And it sticks out on my black and dark plastic interior. To add to the collage, the gal cut one of Sunny’s nails a tad to close, and it did some bleeding on the way home. It’ll be easy to get out of the plastic, not sure about the passenger seat.

Also, I came across Civilization 2 as abandonware. Brings back old memories. Especially the one where it sucks me in and eats all my time. Anyway, I’ve been cheating my ass off to get a feel for it, and found that I have a vengeful side. The Mongols surprise attached a submarine of mine, even though we had a treaty. So I whipped up the appropriate revenge - I nuked all of the Mongol cities. At once. Now I’m running bombing campaigns and slowly bring down their population. Now its just a matter of sweeping through with tanks to take out the remants. Oh look, the French just stole technology from me. Time to send the other carrier out to sea :)

Holy cow, the AC is off and my sauna of a room isn’t sweltering

Apparently Fall is finally here. If this keeps up, I may just pull the A/C unit out of the window and let the fresh air really flow. You can’t really know how much a room needs fresh air until it has some. Shame I gotta work tonight, it’s supposed to drop to 48 degrees. That’s sleeping weather. Oh well, I’ll have to just deal with the 60’s tomorrow.

So Serenity kicked ass. I was a little bummed at the inevitable “some of the characters have to die” bit, but that’s Sci Fi for you. They just can’t keep people alive. I’ll post a longer review once I’ve digested it all.

Wallace and Gromit was better the second time around. Really. Go see this movie.

I finally got the workspace cleared off for construction of the Lego Case. I also sorted through a few thousand Legos. I have quite a stockpile, but there are only certain types that will work for the case. The lots I got off of Ebay had lots of weird specialty pieces, when all I really needed bricks. If only I knew then what I knew now.

Anyway, here’s the pile on the bed: (yeah, the camera phone is crappy. Anyone want to get me a digital camera as an early Birthday present? )

Lego Pile

That’s on the bed. And really a damn big pile. I only got half way through, but I should have enough pieces to make a big dent in the case. Or at least a big construction of the case. At least the specialty pieces gave me a few ideas - this is gonna turn out pretty cool.
