Why must the Sci-Fi channel ruin the things I love?

Ok, I know they haven’t aired it yet, but they’ve completely screwed the pooch on the end of SG-1. It’s a non-ending. It’s just filler to get to the end so that they can make a bunch of straight to DVD movies. That ploy didn’t work for Babylon 5 very well, and I don’t expect it will work well here either. The continuance of story I like, but why didn’t they just wrap up that show, and cart off the favorites to Atlantis? Or if they had to continue the SG-1 storyline, why not just take Atlantis and bring it into the fold, and show both sides of a massive battle in this galaxy and the Pegasus galaxy?

Of course, while Atlantis at least had a good cliffhanger for the end of the season, they killed off a rather loved character right near the end. Which sucks. I mean, it makes for good drama, and brings in decent emotional balance to a techie show, but it seemed so senseless a way to go. Of course, they then make you really torn as to bringing him back, because his replacement is from the cast of Firefly. I realize that Sci-Fi didn’t ruin that show (Fox did a spectacular job all by themselves) but they’re certainly toying with geeks. I mean, they sorta atone for the cancellation of FarScape, but then to try to geek people out with FireFly? You’re talking the three biggest geek obsessions in the last 10 years that didn’t have “Star (space) something” in the title.

Of course, like a sheep, I will watch the seasons to come, and even the straight to DVD movies. But I’ve put ten years into these shows, and I’m damn well gonna see how they end. I just wish they put the wishes of fans first, and the bottom line second. I wonder if they realize the income potential of them doing that.
